Anker 2-in-1 Memory Card Reader Review
It’s hard to find some type of phone or computer accessory that Anker doesn’t have. I mean they pretty much have everything, from power banks to Bluetooth speakers. Not to mention everything else that is in between that. And today I’m going to review one of their most sold devices, the Anker 2-in-1 memory card reader! It’s the highest rated USB 3.0 device for reading SD and Micro SD memory cards! And it’s mostly praised for its simplicity and its incredibly low price tag!
- Dimensions: 65×35×12 mm / 2.6×1.4×0.5″
- Speed rating: UHS-I
- Slots: SD, Micro SD
- Connection: USB 3.0
What I have always liked about Anker is that they keep their devices simple. And this is the perfect example of that. You don’t need a huge memory card reader to fit just SD and Micro SD cards. Nor do you need a long cable that can break at any time and make your device worthless. Instead this 2-in-1 card reader is just a simple small rectangle with a USB 3.0 connector attached to it. It’s also fairly small with a size of 65×35×12 mm / 2.6×1.4×0.5″. So yes you can easily fit it into your pocket and bring it with you. And the best part, there’s nothing to break!
There’s nothing to criticize about the build quality either. It’s made out of durable glossy plastic that feels solid. There are two slots on one of the side for both the Micro SD and SD cards. And those aren’t loose either so you don’t need to worry about either of the cards connecting. They have even added a small LED light that indicates if the reader is working correctly.
This 2-in-1 memory card reader is a simple plug and play device. All you need to do is plug it into an available USB 3.0 port and that’s it. No need for drivers or anything like that. Your computer will immediately recognize it. And yes it works on Windows and Mac systems. What you do need to pay attention to is that the reader is around 35 mm / 1.4” wide. As in it also occupies any other ports next to it. So make sure that your free port has enough space around it.
As I mentioned before, it has 2 slots, one for Micro SD and one for SD cards. You can use both of them simultaneously without any problems. And you won’t lose any speed either. That’s because USB 3.0 is capable of transferring data at a much higher rate than what two UHS-I cards can require. And yes, the maximum speed rating for this reader is UHS-I. So if you are going to be using a UHS-II card, then you won’t be getting the maximum rated speeds with this device.
That said, UHS-II cards are still mostly used by professionals and serious hobbyists. And even for them this can be a really useful portable device. Because chances are that you won’t be needing the super fast UHS-II speeds most of the time anyways. And for your regular person, this device is more than fast enough.
Anker has done a fantastic job with the 2-in-1 USB 3.0 card reader. It has a great design with a compact footprint and most importantly its super easy to use. Just plug it in and you are good to go. Which is perfect for the average person who needs a reader for memory cards. And for the price that it’s sold at, there’s really no better option.
