Belkin Boost Up Review

Belkin Boost Up Wireless Charger Review

Wireless charging is fantastic but sometimes it’s just too slow. With the introduction of fast wireless charging, we have seen a tremendous progress in reducing charging time. Well Belkin has taken it to the next level with their new Belkin Boost Up Wireless Charging Pad.

A while ago, the organization behind the Qi wireless standard revealed that they had come up with a way to increase the power to 15W. While that’s amazing, no smartphone supported it. Until Samsung came out with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge! Both of those smartphones have Qi wireless support for up to 15W. That’s 3 times more power than the standard 5W wireless chargers can produce. Even Samsung’s own charging pad doesn’t reach this. Luckily I had the opportunity to test it so here’s my Belkin Boost Up wireless charger review!

Design & Charging

The Belkin Boost Up has a pretty typical wireless charging pad design. It is however bigger than the Samsung charger for example. It has a dimension of 113x113x13mm / 4.5×4.5×0.5″ so you can imagine the size of it. Despite that, it’s still a pretty nice looking charger. It has a sleek modern style that looks pretty amazing on a glass table. The charger itself is fully made out of plastic. It has a matte non slippery surface that stops the phone from sliding off. There is also a non slippery material underneath the charger to keep it glued to your desk.

Much like other manufacturers, Belkin has also added a green LED that lights up when your phones charging. They have however added it to the right side on the surface. That stops the LED from being blocked by your phone. Much easier to see if your phones actually charging or not. Definitely a thumbs up for that.

Oh and you might have noticed that the charger does not have a MicroUSB port. Belkin has created their own AC wall adapter + cable. It’s nice that you don’t need a separate wall adapter but I kind of prefer having a MicroUSB cable connection. It’s just that I don’t like having to carry around a bulky wall adapter every time I want to move the charger somewhere else.

Now as far as charging goes, the Belkin Boost Up is the most powerful wireless charger available. It uses the Qi wireless standard so make sure that your smartphone/device is compatible. If you wish to use the fast 15W wireless charging though, then you need to have either the Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge. Those are the only two smartphones available that support 15W charging. Everything else can be charged at either 10W (Fast Wireless Charging) or 5W (Standard).

In order to start charging, make sure the wireless charger is plugged into the wall outlet. Then just place your smartphone onto the charging surface. The charger does require you to place it right onto the correct charging spot. It is pretty responsive though, definitely easier to find the right spot than on most other chargers. Perhaps it’s just bigger. Once the green LED lights up, your phone is charging. It will also show up on your phones screen.

Now as far as charging speed goes, it is definitely faster than all other chargers. It fully charges a Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in around 1 hour 40 minutes. That’s way faster than the Fast Wireless Chargers (10W) that take around 2 hours 20 minutes. This does however come at a cost. The charger emits a somewhat low “tickling” sound. It’s not loud or anything but you can hear it if you are close enough. And it can definitely be heard at night when there’s no noise. So a nightstand isn’t the best place for it.

If you have a Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, then the Belkin Boost Up is the best wireless charger you can get. If you are afraid that the sound might annoy you or be too much, then it might not be the charger for you. I’d expect more companies to start making 15W wireless chargers now as there is definitely a need for them. Especially if more phones companies are going to incorporate it as well. But if you want the fastest wireless charger available, then get tbe Belkin. It’s still a great buy.
