Bosch GLM 35 Review

A few years ago Bosch updated their line of laser measure tools. Most importantly their low and mid range products. That also included the Bosch GLM 35, which is a more basic laser measure designed for professionals. Unlike most of their more expensive models, the GLM 35 doesn’t come with tons of features. Even the range is lower at 35 meters / 120 ft. But that hasn’t stopped it from becoming one of their best selling and highest rated laser measures! And it makes sense, as it’s more affordable price tag attracts professional construction workers, engineers and even homeowners. After all, 35 m / 120 ft is more than enough for most jobs and professions.

When it comes to design, most laser distance measures look pretty much the same. Which is also true for the Bosch GLM 35 as it has the standard rectangular body. But the main difference compared to other lasers is the size. With a dimension of 104×41×23 mm / 4.1×1.6×0.9″, the GLM 35 is incredibly compact. Which makes it really easy to carry around and even store it inside a pocket.

Bosch GLM 35 Laser Measure

The body of the laser distance measure is made of the standard Bosch blue plastic. And of course, they have also added some rubber parts on the edges to improve the grip. My only wish is that they had added those along all the edges. The body also has an IP54 waterproof rating, which means that it’s splash water and dust resistant. Definitely avoid going swimming with it!

Unlike the more expensive Bosch laser distance measures, the GLM 35 has a more basic and simple front side. It has a decent sized LCD screen that also has a backlight. Underneath that, there are 5 buttons for measuring and functions. The back of the tool has a compartment for two AAA batteries. Overall the build quality is super nice. As you’d also expect from the Bosch Professional series.

The Bosch GLM 35 has a maximum range of 35 m / 120 ft with an accuracy of +/- 1/16 inch (1.5 mm). This isn’t the longest ranged laser distance measures, but it’s definitely enough for most professions. Especially for homeowners who are looking for an affordable high quality laser distance measure for remodeling. And the biggest advantage of it is how easy it is to use. The GLM 35 doesn’t have that many different functions. But you can still also use it to calculate the volume and area based on your measurements. And you can also choose between 4 unit types:

  • Meters
  • Feet
  • Inches
  • Feet + Inches

It doesn’t come with a built-in memory so you cant view your past measurements. It does however display 3 of your past measured distances on the screen. Which is more than enough in my opinion. So as far as usability goes, it’s a very simple tool that you can use as soon as you open the box. PS! the tool doesn’t include the required 2 AAA batteries. Also you can expect around 4 hours of battery life.

If you are looking for a professional high quality laser distance measure for under $100, then the Bosch GLM 35 is probably the best option. It’s incredibly compact and easy to use. Plus the overall quality and accuracy is exactly the same as on the more expensive models. The only negative part in my opinion is that it doesn’t have a built-in battery. The two AAA batteries work fine but that’s just my preference.
