Optical drives are devices that can at the minimum read CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs! They are mostly an integral part of media players that are used for watching movies and listening to music. But there are also burners, which you can use to write data onto the discs as well. It wasn’t long ago when every computer came with an internal DVD drive. And it’s not like it was for a short period either. Discs ruled the world for over two decades before the cloud file storage services appeared. Which is why most of us still have a ton of discs laying around and sometimes you need to view what’s on them.
Unfortunately those internal drives have mostly been dropped. Most of the computer brands have instead started selling external DVD and Blu-ray drives! They work and perform exactly the same, the only difference is that you’ll have to plug them into your computer via USB. The external drives are incredibly portable and you can take them with you everywhere you go. There are so many different designs and types to choose from. Which is why I will most probably never run out of drives to review and write about. So here you can find all of the different models I have tested and my thoughts about them.
