Samsung Convertible Review
Samsung recently revealed their newest Galaxy series: the Galaxy S8 and S8+ phones. With the release of those, Samsung also introduced a brand new wireless charger! Something that would look good with the new sleek design. And I have to say that the newest Samsung wireless charger is the best looking one so far. It has a whole new unique design and even a convertible feature. Plus when it comes to wireless chargers, Samsung has always been the brand you can trust.
The wireless charger I’m reviewing today is called the Samsung Convertible Wireless Charger Pad. Pretty long name I know. It’s called convertible because you can use it both as a flat charging pad and also at an angle like TYLT VU. Which does make this pretty unique. The charger also supports the standard Qi fast wireless charging. Which basically means that the charger is capable of charging at up to 9W / 2A. It is only compatible with the supported phones. More about that later on in the review. The charger is currently available for $90 so it is definitely expensive. Let’s see if it’s worth the money.

Design & Charging
Samsung wireless chargers have been evolving quite a bit over the years. While the first Samsung chargers were fully made out of a shiny plastic, the newest convertible charger features different materials. Which has also made the charger more sleek and have this professional look. While the new charger is quite a bit bigger than the previous versions with a dimension of 113x113x25mm / 4.5×4.5×1″, I still can’t consider that to be bad. Especially since recently phones have started becoming bigger than ever.
The new convertible design allows you to use the charger both on the desk and on the go. It uses a folding mechanism which allows you to use the charger as a pad or at an angle. The mechanism itself works really smooth. It actually feels super nice to fold it. So you can easily take it with you on a holiday for example. Besides that, Samsung has also added a non slippery bottom so you it stays flat on any surface. Doesn’t matter if it’s folded or not.
Besides the convertible feature, Samsung has also really upped the overall design. The charging surface has a nice leather feel and the rest of the charger has a matte plastic finish. The combination of the leather like texture and matte colors make the charger look super sleek. Definitely has this expensive feel to it. So I’m not surprised of the $90 price at all. In fact, I feel like the design it self is worth it. It is definitely the best looking wireless charger currently available. Oh and it does also come in two colors! You can choose between the matte black and beige/brown. Both of them look amazing but I personally prefer the black one.
Now onto the charging. First of all, the Samsung convertible wireless charger does not come with a cable. Which is pretty surprising to me. Apparently it’s because they expect you to use the cable that comes with the Galaxy S8 or S8+ phones. I guess it makes sense as the charger was released with them. But if you don’t plan on getting the newest Galaxy phone, then you’ll need to get a cable yourself. PS! The Samsung wireless charger now has a USB-C port instead of a MicroUSB one. So if you plan on using a MicroUSB cable, then make sure that you also use the USB-C adapter that comes with the charger. It’s great to see that Samsung has also thought about the older models.
The Samsung wireless charger does use the Qi wireless standard. Which means that it supports both the 9W Fast Wireless Charging and the standard 5W charging. In order to use the fast wireless charging, you need two tings. First your phone has to support it and secondly you need to have a fast charge wall adapter. If you have a Galaxy S7 or Note then you should have the fast charge adapter that came with it. For those of you who aren’t sure if their phone supports fast wireless charging, I’ll write down the models that feature it: Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, S7, S7 Edge, S6 Edge, S6, S6 Edge+ and Note5. If you don’t have any of the following phones, then you are sadly stuck with the standard 5W charging speed.
Charging with the Samsung Convertible feels really good though. When I say good I mean hassle free. The charging surface is very responsive and connects to the phone immediately. It uses the 3 coil system which makes sure that your phone will start charging despite how you place it down. At an angled mode, you can even place it as landscape mode. Which will allow you to watch a movie while charging for example.
Samsung has also prevented the charger from getting hot by adding a fan underneath the surface. Luckily the fan is super quiet and you can’t even hear it. Which means that you can easily use it on a nightstand as well.
The new Samsung Convertible is in my opinion the best looking wireless charger available. If you are looking for something more professional and high quality, then this is definitely the product for you. But is it worth the money? Well in my opinion it is if you want something like this. Of course you can get a just as good wireless charger for much cheaper but what you are really paying for here is the design. And the beautiful design is definitely worth it in my opinion.
The best looking wireless charger currently available!
