VicTsing MM057 Review

VicTsing MM057 Review

Most of the computer mouse market is dominated by a couple of well-known brands. That’s the case for both normal and gaming mice. But since we are in a global market, there have also much less-known brands started to appear as well. Especially the Chinese ones. And the VicTsing MM057 wireless mouse is the best example of that. Not only is it super cheap but it also has a lot of features. Such as the possibility to change the DPI level. Which I’m going to cover more in this review!

VicTsing may not be a very well-known brand but that has not stopped them from creating a visually really good looking mouse. The MM057 has a sleek and modern all black design that you wouldn’t expect to get from such an inexpensive mouse. It has an asymmetrical shape and a mixture of glossy and matte colors. The model that I have gone with is fully black. You can also choose between other colors as well.

In addition to that, the mouse is also pretty compact. It has an overall dimension of 104×71×39 mm / 4.1×2.8×1.5″, which makes it easy to store in a laptop bag. Which does also mean that this mouse is designed more for people with smaller to medium size hands. It will be pretty uncomfortable to use it if you got larger hands/palms. Unless of course you use a claw grip. VicTsing has even added rubber texture to the sides so that it’s easier to grip.

VicTsing MM057 Design

Now about the layout. The top side is pretty standard with the left and right click buttons and of course a clickable scroll wheel in between. Above that, there’s a single CPI button for adjusting the mouse sensitivity. On the left side, there are two more buttons for back and forward. Unfortunately, none of the buttons are programmable.

Surprisingly enough, the MM057 has also got a decent build quality. Sure the plastic parts don’t feel the highest quality but they are more than decent. The frame for example feels incredibly solid and the scroll wheel doesn’t wobble at all. Also the mouse weighs 91 g / 3.2 oz. Which includes the weight of a single AA battery that you’ll need to use. The compartment is located underneath the mouse along with a slot of the receiver and sliding pads.

Setting up

The VicTsing MM057 doesn’t require any actual setting up. It’s a simple plug and play mouse. Which means that it doesn’t come with any programs. All you have to do is place a battery into the mouse and plug the nano receiver into your computers USB port. Your operating system will recognize it itself. And it’s designed to work on all systems. That includes Windows, Mac OSX, Linux and Chrome OS. The only things that doesn’t work with Mac OSX are the back and forward buttons on the side.

The MM057 is equipped with the PixArt PA3212 optical sensor. Which is generally considered as an office grade sensor for wireless mice. It has a maximum resolution of 2400 CPI and a polling rate of 250 Hz. Which is more than idea as a normal wireless mouse. If you are looking for a serious gaming mouse however, then this isn’t really the one for you.

For example the maximum sensitivity is 2400 CPI but you can’t really adjust it the same way you would on a modern gaming mouse. The mouse has 5 setpoints for it. So with the push of the CPI button, you can set the resolution to 800, 1200, 1600, 2000 and 2400. Now sure you can say that FPS games are best played at 800 but the polling rate and wireless connection increases the response time. Which is pretty important when it comes down to playing FPS games seriously. If you are just trying to have fun though, then sure you can obviously play them with this as well.

Surprisingly enough, I haven’t experienced any problems with connectivity. The Nano transmitter generates a stable signal at a standard 2.4 GHz frequency and you can even use the mouse from 10 meters / 33 feet away.

In terms of battery life, VicTsing claims that the mouse can last up to 15 months on a single battery. Now I haven’t had it long enough to verify this but from what I have noticed, the mouse does consume barely any power. In addition to that, the mouse automatically shuts itself off when you haven’t used it for 8 minutes. Pressing any of the buttons will automatically wake it up. Unfortunately there isn’t a On/Off switch.

So, while the VicTsing MM057 is an extremely cheap wireless mouse, it’s by no means a bad one. It’s really well put together with some good quality materials and solid construction. The shape is well thought out and even has a place for your little finger. Not to mention the rubber texture on the side. It’s probably not the most comfortable mouse for people with larger than average hands but even they can manage with a claw grip.

And the same goes for performance as well. It’s not some high-end gaming mouse and it hasn’t been designed as such either. The MM057 shows that cheaper laptop mice can also have adjustable sensitivity. And it can be really useful for people who occasionally edit photos for example. So I can see why this wireless mouse has received so many high ratings and it definitely deserves it!
