Vizio SB3651-E6 Review

Vizio SB3651-E6 Review

Vizio is an American company that has been developing consumer electronics for more than a decade now. Not only do they make speakers but also TV’s and everything else that belongs in the home entertainment genre. But what they are really well known for are their sound bars. It’s hard to find a company that is more known than them. They have had plenty of successful products and one of their best selling sound bars at the moment is the Vizio SB3651-E6. And according to all the reviews that I read, it’s a really highly rated system. So I decided to buy it as well and here’s what I think about it.

In The Box

  • Sound bar
  • Subwoofer
  • 2 speakers
  • Remote
  • HDMI & optical cables

As you can see the Vizio SB3651-E6 actually consists of much more than just a sound bar. It’s an entire audio system that also includes a wireless subwoofer and 2 speakers. I’ll cover all of them separately below.

Sound Bar

The included sound bar is 36 inches in length. It’s incredibly thin and low profiled. You can easily place it in front of the TV and it will blend in nicely. The sound bar is also pleasing to look at. I really like the black and silver design. Everything about it looks sleek and modern.

You won’t find any physical buttons on the sound bar. There are some touch sensitive buttons on the top however. You can use those to turn it on, access the menu, enable Bluetooth and change the volume. It’s pretty basic but it’s enough to use it.

Vizio SB3651-E6 Sound Bar Ports

The back side of the SB3651-E6 sound bar has all of the ports and connectors. There are actually two separate sections. And they do make sense. The first section is basically dedicated for media and storage. It has a port for an Ethernet cable, a USB 2.0 for storage and HDMI In & Out for media. The other section has the power input, optical & digital connectors and AUX. You can connect the sound bar to a TV with the HDMI ARC port. This will pass the audio from the TV to the sound bar. Vizio has also included an HDMI cable in the package! It’s always nice to see companies take the extra step and include accessories as well.

Subwoofer & Speakers

Besides the sound bar, the Vizio SB3651-E6 also includes a subwoofer and 2 rear speakers. And the subwoofer looks just as good as the sound bar. The shape of it is rectangular with rounded edges. It also has the exact same black and silver color theme. The only difference is the back side, which has a couple of connectors and a decent size speaker driver. What makes this subwoofer special is that it uses a wireless connection to pair up with the sound bar. So you can place it to the other side of the room and not worry about cable placement.

Vizio SB3651-E6 Speakers

The two rear speakers on the other hand are connected to the subwoofer with two audio cables. Those are also included in the package. The speakers have the same design as the rest of the devices so they blend in with everything. Overall this system looks fantastic. I recommend getting separate stands for the rear speakers so that you can place them higher. They are pretty small in size so you don’t need anything huge.

Remote controller

Vizio has done a great job with the remote controller. Not only does it fit the overall style of the speakers but it’s also functional. Design wise, it’s one of the best looking remotes I have seen. Especially in this price range.

The remote also follows the same silver & black theme. I like how the top part is completely flat without any sign of curves. It fits with the overall modern design. The buttons on it are also square like. My only issue is with the white symbols that aren’t very visible. Especially in the dark. My only other concern is also with the small LCD display screen. It doesn’t have a back light, which makes that useless as well in the dark. But you’ll probably memorize it all after you have used it for a while, so it’s not exactly a deal breaker.

Sound Quality

The Vizio SB3651-E6 is a 5.1 surround sound system. Which is why it’s important to set it all up correctly, especially if you want the best sound quality. You should always keep the sound bar in front of the TV. The subwoofer and the two speakers should be placed behind you.

Overall the sound quality is decent. The rear speakers do exactly what their designed for. They were a bit too loud for me at first so I had to lower their volume through the configurations. This way it was all balanced. I did notice some decline in quality when I raised the volume. The same was also the case with the sound bar.

I’d say that the weakest part about the entire system is the subwoofer. It started to vibrate really loudly during scenes that had explosions. There was a lot of distortion coming from it. So it does work but only if you don’t turn the volume up too high.

Google Chromecast

Besides the remote control that comes with the system, you can also use your mobile to control it. Vizio has created an app called the SmartCast that you can use to configure almost everything. For example you can adjust the bass level, subwoofer volume and even create different Equalizer sets.

All of Vizio’s products can be paired up with Google Chromecast. So if you have a TV from them as well, then you create a fully smart ecosystem.

The Vizio SB3651-E6 is one of the best sound bar systems that you can buy in this price range. It’s highly configurable and the SmartCast app makes it much easier to use. Not to mention the design and the size of everything. It doesn’t take up much space at all, which again is great for smaller rooms as well.

The only downside is the sound quality. I mean it’s more than fine as long as you aren’t planning to listen to anything at a high volume. Especially if you are planning to listen to action heavy movies. It just doesn’t handle explosions well when it’s loud. But other than that, it creates a genuine surround sound feeling. Which is pretty hard to get in this price range.
